As a young person, I came by social work easily.  I was the one who defended the underdog and stuck up for those kids who were being bullied.  As a young adult, however, I followed the advice of my father and pursued education that would secure a stable career, getting my bachelor’s degree in Economics with a minor in Math.  While I made a good living, I felt unfulfilled.

In my late 20’s, I found myself caring for my dying brother.  I went to doctor’s appointments with him, cared for his ailing body, and when the time came, found him an in-hospital hospice to care for him in his final days.  I was deeply touched by the trust my brother placed in me to help him with this transition, moved by the significance of the role I played in his care, and rediscovered my desire to help and advocate for those who are in need.
